Experience

English Teacher

Sheboygan Falls High School, Sheboygan Falls, WI August 2009-present
I currently teach CyberEnglish9 and AP Language and Composition.

CyberEnglish9 is the study of language arts through web materials such as blogs, wikis, podcasts, and cyberjournals.  Through this web based approach the students study literature and poetry as well as the elements of literature such as plot, setting, character and theme. The objectives for CE9 are to enhance the students’ overall critical reading, writing and thinking skills to prepare them for their high school experience.

AP English Language and Composition is primarily an American Literature course aimed at readying students for the AP English Language and Composition exam. For this class, nonfiction is primarily used to enhance the students’ recognition of rhetorical strategies, argument, evidence and purpose.

In the past I have taught English 12.  English 12 focused on analyzing messages presented through written forums in our society.  Using literature, media and communication the students investigated how written language is conceived and interpreted.

Lecturer

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Milwaukee, WI May 2009-present
The Urban Teacher World-Milwaukee at the University of Wisconsin- Milwaukee offers Milwaukee Public High School students the opportunity to explore the career of urban education.  For this exploratory program, I developed the literature curriculum, which focuses on analysis of young adult literature. The lesson plans are aimed at developing strong reading, writing and analytical thinking skills. The literature curriculum also included coordinating class research during the construction of an educational career film documentary.

Student Teacher

Pulaski High School, Milwaukee, WI January-June 2009
At Pulaski High School I coordinated 11th grade Language Arts, novel and short fiction literary study, and creative writing courses.  As the classroom instructor, I created and developed appropriate lesson plans on a daily basis as well as unit and semester long course work, which included the assessment of students in reading and writing. I also developed and maintained classroom management strategies.

Field Work

Benjamin Franklin Middle School, Milwaukee, WI September-December 2008
I worked with seventh and eighth grade students in small groups, one-on-one and class settings. I developed and taught language arts and reading lessons, which assessed students in reading and writing.
